Sorcery Of Thorns Book Review! 🔮📖

Hi guys! Welcome to another book review! Let’s get started!

Sorcery Of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson is a Young Adult fantasy novel. If you have heard her name before it’s because she also wrote An Enchantment Of Ravens.

Sorcery Of Thorns came out earlier this year and I received it in a book subscription box. I adored it!

What it’s about: A girl named Elizabeth is an apprentice at one of the great libraries. She aspires to be a Warden and a wardens job is to look after grimoires and make sure they don’t turn evil. Also Elizabeth was raised to believe that all sorcerers and sorcery is evil. When an attack happens at the library, she must clear her name.

Then there enters Nathaniel, a sorcerer who has a friend named Silas and maybe the reason Elizabeth starts to think that maybe sorcery isn’t all evil.

My Thoughts: I gave this book a 4/5 stars.

I thought this book was really enjoyable. I love Silas and Elizabeth and Nathaniel! The world was amazing and the magic system in this was awesome! The world building was epic and I just loved this book!

Now the one thing I didn’t like was when they revealed why Elizabeth could feel magic and was basically immune to most magic done to her. I feel like that could’ve been more interesting. But the ending was great! There were great twists and turns!

I definitely recommend this book! If you pick it up I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

A Very Large Expanse Of Sea

Hello everyone!

Here is my book review of ‘A Very Large Expanse Of Sea’ by Tahereh Mafi! This was my first read of 2019 and my first book I have read of hers. I know she is the author of the ‘Shatter Me’ series, but I haven’t read that yet.

I finished this book on January 9th and yes I am sorry it took some time for this review. I wasn’t feeling very well two Monday’s ago and last Monday got away from me! But here we go!

Loved this book! ❤

The Synopsis:

‘A Very Large Expanse Of Sea’ is about a girl named Shirin. She is a sixteen year old Muslim girl living in the year 2002. It’s a year after 9/11 and she is tired of being stereotyped and she isn’t surprised by how cruel people can be at this point. Then, at school, she meets this guy named Ocean. She doesn’t understand why he could be interested in her.

My thoughts:

My star rating: 4.5 stars

I did love the book! I loved the setting and the writing and you can’t help but root for Ocean and Shirin! I’m glad that this was my introduction to Tahereh Mafi!

I love how that this is fiction but it is based on Tahereh’s life as a teenager. How she loved break dancing and how people could be cruel just because of her religion and her wearing a hijab.

I did’t like, and spoilers ahead, how the coach yelled at her and she didn’t really report him. I know she was scared because an older white man had just basically screamed at her. She is only sixteen.

All in all I thought it was really good!

Book Review: Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

Hello! I am back with another book review! I read this book in late Novmeber-Early December. I got it through my November OwlCrate Subscription!

OwlCrate Subscription Edition!

What the book is about:

Each year eight beautiful girls are chosen as ‘Paper Girls’ to serve the demon king. It’s the highest honor they could hope for…..and the most cruel.

A girl named Lei is of the Paper (human) caste and is chosen as the ninth girl to become a ‘Paper Girl’ to serve the demon king. Lei is chosen because of her unusual gold eyes. It is the highest honor for paper girls. But Lei falls in love with another paper girl and it could spell trouble for them both.

My thoughts:

I gave this book a 5/5 stars! I love the world and Natasha’s writing just flows so easily. She did give trigger warnings at the beginning of the book about scenes of violence and sexual assault. I think authors need to start putting trigger warnings at the beginning of their books to be honest.

Now I will give you another trigger warning; there is an animal death in the book. It happens near the beginning. I wish I was warned because I almost didn’t read the rest of the book because of it.

I love that is has LGBTQ+ aspects in it! And really it doesn’t really say anything bad about the relationship at all. The only negative thing is that the demon king could kill them because he wants the ‘Paper Girls’ to himself.

I love how strong some of the characters become in this book, especially Lei. I really can’t wait to see how her story continues in book two!

Book Review: Simon Vs. The Homosapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

IMG_1726

Hey guys! I am here with another book review! And today is Simon Vs. The Homosapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli!

About the Book:

This story is about a guy named Simon Spier. He is a closeted gay kid in high school. One day he learns that there is another closeted gay kid at his school but the only thing he knows about him is his made up name “Blue.”. He begins emailing Blue under his own fake name and they start talking back and forth.

One day Simon leaves his email account up in the library by mistake. Another person sees the emails and tells Simon that he won’t show anyone the emails if he can get him a date with his friend Abby. Now Simon begins to freak out because he doesn’t know how Blue would react if the emails get out, so he goes along with the blackmail.

This book is an lgbtq+ fiction that is funny and heartwarming.

What I think of the book:

I LOVED this book! I loved the plot and the characters and just everything! I love Simon’s friends; Nick, Leah, and Abby. I also loved his parents!

Now the kid who blackmails Simon I’m not a particular fan of. No one should make some one else come out if they don’t want to. I also liked that message of the story and how they questioned “Why is being straight the default?”.

I give this book a 5/5 stars and I really highly recommend it!

I’ve seen the movie adaptation “Love, Simon” back in March and it is SOOOO GOOD! ❤

Let me know in the comments: Have you read this book? What did you think of it? Have you seen the movie? What were your thoughts on that? 🙂

I hope everyone has a great week and remember to Spread Happiness! 🙂

Review of Gabbie Hanna’s new song ‘Satellite’

Hey guys! Today I will be giving my thought’s on Gabbie Hanna’s, a.k.a TheGabbieShow, new song ‘Satellite’! I bought it today after I got home from work! I was so excited to listen to it!

I’ve got to hand it to Gabbie because that girl can sing! Seriously her vocals in this new song were amazing! I love when she goes soft and then starts hitting the notes like yes! I am here for it!

I’ve seen the lyric video today too and it’s amazing! I can’t wait to see the music video! If you want to check out the lyric video just go here: ‘Satellite’ (Lyric Video)-Gabbie Hanna

I am so proud of Gabbie! She went from not liking to sing in front of people to releasing two great songs! I can’t wait until she makes an album! My favorite line from the song is; “Guess I gotta be content with playing in the darkness, a lovely place to hide. Oh, but hide and seek is only fun if, if somebody’s looking! And nobody’s got the time.”

If you want to check out Gabbie’s Youtube channel then just go here: Gabbie Hanna Youtube

I promise you won’t want to miss out on her videos and here’s her vlog channel! Gabbie Vlogs She posts all kinds of funny and sometimes kooky content on there! Be sure to follow her adventures!

Alright guys I am going to leave it at that! You can buy Gabbies new song on Itunes or download it on Spotify. Have a nice week and Happy Thanksgiving! (If you celebrate it!)

Riverdale thoughts….

Hey guys! Today I am going to tell you my thoughts on the recent episode of the second season of Riverdale, ‘Death Proof’. And I will be saying my thoughts on the season so far and what my predictions are for it.

*****ATTENTION: SPOILERS AHEAD!!*****

If you haven’t seen the latest episode of Riverdale then don’t read ahead! It will be full of spoilers and I know some people don’t like them! So if you read ahead….you’ve been warned.

Okay lets get started! I liked this episode because of things that happened in it. I’m actually glad that ‘Black Hood’ didn’t kill Nick St.Claire because Betty gave the name. I didn’t want Betty having that on her conscience. And I’m glad that the parents confronted the kids on that night with the ‘Jingle Jangle.’

It was a cool scene they shot of Mayor McCoy going to Southside High and raiding it. I’m kind of glad it happened to be honest because I didn’t want Jughead going down that road. And speaking of Jughead, I got some things to say!

How are you going to sleep with someone else after only being broken up with for only two freaking seconds! I hated that scene at the end of the fifth episode. Bughead is for life, do not @ me on that!  And why did he even join the serpents?

I get he wanted to try to keep the peace between the North and Southside but he could’ve found another way. Okay rant over. I’m glad that Cheryl Blossom is going to go ahead and press charges against Nick, because he is a creep that deserves to rot in hell. And is it weird that Hermione Lodge isn’t getting as much air time as she was last season?

I am so glad that B and V are back! I am so excited to see what they cook up for ‘Black Hood’. And I hope Jughead and Betty are back together because of the scene when they were on the couch together!

But what’s going to happen when Betty finds out that he slept with that girl? How exactly is ‘Black Hood’ going to take being chased by Betty? Things have been really good with Archie and Veronica lately. I hope it stays that way!

I think ‘Black Hood’ is Betty’s brother because I read somewhere that we are supposed to meet him this season. Or it could be someone entirely different. I was really shocked when Robert Phillips was caught as the “SugarMan”!

After all the talk of ‘No jingle jangle and no gangs.’ turns out he was the drug dealer of Riverdale. I also hope that Archies dad is okay. I really don’t want him getting worse.

All in all I’m liking this season! I hope we find out the identity of ‘Black Hood’ soon.

Tell me in the comments what you think of this season so far. Do you have any theories? I would love to know what you guys think!

Everyone have a great day and have a Happy Thanksgiving (if you celebrate it!) Remember, Spread Happiness! ❤

Book Review: ‘The Hate U Give’ by Angie Thomas

IMG_1358

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (Sorry about the Riverdale pin, just ignore it)

“When I was twelve, my parents had two talks with me.

One was the usual birds and bees. Well, I didn’t really get the usual version. My mom, Lisa, is a registered nurse, and she told me what went where, and what didn’t need to go here, there, or any damn where, till I’m grown. Back then, I doubted anything was going anywhere anyway. While all the other girls sprouted breasts between sixth and seventh grade, my chest was as flat as my back.

The other talk was about what to do if a cop stopped me.

Momma fussed and told Daddy I was too young for that.

He argued that I wasn’t too young to get arrested or shot.

“Starr-Starr, you do whatever they tell you to do,” he said. “Keep your hands visible. Don’t make any sudden moves. Only speak when they speak to you.”

I hope somebody had the same talk with Khalil.

‘The Hate U Give’ by Angie Thomas -Chp. 2 Pg. 20-21

This book guys….this book….is so good! I really don’t know what I have to say. It deals with such real issues that we have in our country (U.S.A) today. It really hits home. It deals with situations that black people have to go through. And, just like Christian Science Monitor says about this book, “If  The Hate U Give makes you uncomfortable, that’s because it should. Especially if you’re white and have read this book.

I am a white person and reading this book has really opened my eyes to what black people really have to go through. Of course I will never fully understand, but It really did open my eyes. This book deals with police brutality and riots and protests.

This book is about a sixteen year old girl named Starr Carter. She lives in a poor black neighborhood and goes to a suburban prep school. One night she is at a party, that she didn’t want to go to, and is just there with her friends. Then she sees a friend she hasn’t seen in a while named Khalil.

Suddenly the party ends because shots ring out and Khalil and Starr run to his car and drive off. Starr starts asking Khalil questions, and he doesn’t want to answer them. Then they get pulled over. The cop does the usual and Khalil is being a little smart but then the cop tells him to get out of the car for no reason. Things get out of control and the cop shoots Khalil. (No I’m not giving spoilers because you know what happens when you open the dust cover flap.)

This is the second time Starr has seen a friend murdered in front of her eyes. You’ll just have to read the book to see what happens then. Now this book just isn’t all tears and shock and anger, it has it’s funny moments and good moments. This book is powerful, heart-breaking, and just….amazing.

I like this book because it does bring to light the racism that is in this country today. How there is police brutality, white privilege, and many other bad things in this world. I hope you guys enjoy this book as much as I did.

If you want to get this book it is on sale in stores everywhere. I want to know in the comments: Have you read this book? What was your favorite part about it? How did it make you feel?

As always guys, have a good day and spread happiness!
